An artfully created signature scent is the perfect finish to a thoughtful foundation for the year ahead.
Our collection of fewer, better things is made up of essential pieces that define your everyday. Like our coveted closet staples, the perfume you choose should be approached as a considered expression of yourself. There’s something ritualistic about putting it on every morning, or spraying it in your home, that feels as personal as the pieces you love and wear. Similar to the way we design and craft each piece, each scent is a unique art form, expressing a different personality that’s individual, and even aspirational.
Exquisitely hand-made perfumes start with the same philosophy that’s at the heart of Cuyana: they possess a carefully considered supply chain, and end in a thoughtfully created finished product. Anne Serrano McClain, the Founder of Brooklyn-based MCMC fragrances shared her expertise on the origins of perfumery, having studied its art in the perfume capital of the world Grasse, France. “Most ingredients for perfume are grown and harvested in Grasse—the precious plants and flowers are distilled from nature into little glass bottles, becoming a world of their own,” she says.
Just like the conceptual, imaginative influences at play in each of our collections, a fragrance is crafted with a clear objective. “I start with an inspiration—be it a travel moment, the memory of a friend, or even with certain ingredients in mind,” says McClain. “I’ll mix the first formulation, and then go into a series of evaluating, editing and wearing it on my skin until I feel like I’ve achieved my original intention,” she says. This results in a singular scent that communicates something unique, and is interpreted differently by each person that experiences it.
When adding a signature scent to your foundation, ensure it is made meaningfully, feels personal, and is something you truly love. It will be the perfect counterpart to a beautiful closet of key pieces that will see you through each and everyday with elegance and ease.
