“New Office” Dressing: The Wing, D.C.
“New Office” Dressing:
The Wing, D.C.
Whether a dedicated cubicle, local coffee shop or co-working space—the idea of a “traditional” office environment is undergoing a dramatic shift.
To complement these dynamic workplaces, we’ve taken conscious steps towards redefining the modern 9-5 wardrobe—designing essential pieces that beautifully blur the line between work and weekend. By challenging the existing notions of how she dresses for work, we reveal a woman who is multi-faceted, discerning and driven.
In perhaps our most anticipated collaboration to date, we partnered with Meredith Koop, the advisor and stylist to Michelle Obama, and The Wing, Washington D.C.’s female-only co-working space. We consulted with Koop to concept and dress an inclusive group of women who call The Wing their “working” home, Koop’s sensible yet fashion-forward aesthetic beautifully mirrors our own.
Designed by Cuyana, styled by Koop and conceived by both—welcome to “New Office” dressing.
Shoes styled in partnership with Tamara Mellon and Koio.
Hairstylist + Salon Owner
A self-professed ‘girl on the go,’ Damtew prides herself on educating and mentoring her fellow beauty industry professionals. First establishing herself as one of the personal hairstylists to the Obama family, today she continues to work with high-profile clientele out of D.C. Darker colors—like our Silk Band Collar Shirt in black—suit her perfectly on days she works with clients. Come weekend, she prefers a tried-and-true blouse, jeans and heels ensemble.
Chief Product Officer + Founder, Strategy & Action
As an engineering graduate turned CEO of a technology consulting firm, Benghanem is a force to be reckoned with. Passionate about tech entrepreneurship, she’s a strong proponent of women’s rights—encouraging them to start and build successful products of their own. While a darker color palette appeals to her daily style pursuits, she loves experimenting with colorful jewelry—unafraid to layer and stack. Come weekend, comfort is top of mind—opting for jeans or athleisure pants paired with long-sleeve tops.
Owner of S3 Active
A true advocate for all things wellness, Salih is the proud founder of S3 Active, a boutique wellness concept that combines mindfulness, fitness and retail. She describes her weekend style as ‘curated and sophisticated’ yet ‘practical and utilitarian.’ To complement her fluid lifestyle, she prefers her clothing does the same. Given her penchant for monochromatic colors (black, white and the occasional neutral), she often imbues playfulness through non-traditional elements such as texture, proportion and function.
Co-Founder + Partner, Inside Projects
Originally from Los Angeles, Jones began her consulting firm, Inside Projects, after working as a White House staffer for eight years during the Obama administration. Now an active member of The Wing, her passion project focuses on new market openings and building a community where women can thrive in business, creativity, philanthropy and the like. Her self-professed weekday style is ‘elevated casual,’ which consists of flouncy dresses and/or dark denim skinny jeans paired with an oversized sweater or top. Her take on our Silk Slip Dress? Wonderfully versatile, easily transitioning from casual to professional with the help of a statement accessory or shoe.
“As I build my own brand, I am constantly on-the-go and in a state of transition. I am working early mornings, late nights and weekends—typically from The Wing! Co-working spaces cater to a shift in our culture that allows me to work from anywhere, anytime. For me, the ‘New Office’ represents limitless possibilities for success.” – Kristin Jones
For Women, By Women
Imported from New York City, The Wing D.C. first opened its doors earlier this year in the historic Georgetown neighborhood. Their mission? To advance the professional, civic, social and economic opportunities for women—through community. With plans already underway for six new locations, this female-only space is where new ideas and conversations continuously take place, propelling womankind forward.
As Michelle Obama's Stylist, Meredith Koop embraces fashion as a compelling form of communication and has redefined style to be more inclusive and thoughtfully modern.
