Karla Gallardo and Shilpa Shah embarked upon their journey of founding Cuyana with a shared value of quality craftsmanship and timeless design. After growing up in Ecuador, Karla moved to the U.S. with a dream of building a fewer, better fashion brand. With a similar appreciation for fewer, better, Shilpa was drawn to Cuyana for the opportunity to create products rich in meaning, quality, and story.
Together, after receiving their MBAs at Stanford and Berkeley respectively, Shilpa and Karla established Cuyana with the vision of creating a global design house that inspires intentional buying through pieces that are made with integrity. The brand has offered best-selling pieces—including everyday totes and timeless small leather goods—for the last ten years. Today, with the goal of keeping pieces in customers’ wardrobes and out of landfill, Cuyana creates a carefully edited collection of sustainably-made apparel and accessories.
