CHAPTER 2: PERU
We chose alpaca for Cuyana's Peruvian line. Across the globe, alpaca is famous for its incredibly lightweight and warm texture. The tradition of weaving alpaca dates back to the time of the Incas when it was reserved for loyalty. Animal friendly and environmentally conscious, our alpacas graze at high elevations in the Peruvian Andes. Their rich coats grow in over 22 shades. Each spring, alpacas are sheared just like sheep, keeping them happy and healthy during hot summer. We worked with Peruvian craftsmen who wove our luxurious infinity scarves and oversized vests using the best and most premium alpaca. The finer the alpaca, the softer it is. Baby alpaca, an industry term that refers to the fineness of the fiber and not the age of the alpaca, is softer than cashmere and warmer than wool. This is the alpaca fiber we chose for our collection.
